Saturday, March 31st, from 12 pm to 4 pm
Barnes & Noble in The Forum

Carlousia, The Passing of the Guard is the first novel in the new teen fantasy Carlousia series by Carter.  The book has received rave reviews and is being viewed as one of the breakout books of the year as the next big hit book series for young adults.  Carlousia, The Passing of the Guard, has been selected for the second round of the coveted Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest.  The book teaches the basic concepts of character, honesty, loyalty, and friendship, while holding the readers attention in a twist and turns adventure.

“I am very honored and happy to be kicking off my spring book tour for Carlousia, The Passing of the Guard in Gainesville and Norcross.” Carter stated,  “I am humbled by the reviews and positive response that Carlousia, The Passing of the Guard has earned since its release.  I believe that the concepts in this adventure story, of friendship, honor, and loyalty resonate with readers of all ages.  I look forward to talking with readers, who come out and join the adventure Carlousia provides, at these signings.”

In Carlousia, readers meet Eddie Caskett.  Eddie is filled with relief. The worries of moving into a new neighborhood, making friends, and starting a new school have been weighing him down. But after spending just a few minutes with the kids of Drayton Woods, Eddie realizes that the adventurous summer he was hoping for might just happen after all. Eddie hopes all the fun he anticipates will ease the pain of knowing his grandfather is dying.

With his last bit of strength before he passes away, Eddie’s grandfather whispers that he has left something for Eddie in his barn—and that the tall tales he has been telling Eddie for years are true. With the help of a magic bracelet he finds inside a secret hole in the barn, Eddie and his two new friends, Dan and Scotty, enter a portal where they are suddenly thrust into roles guarding the world of Carlousia. With one slip or miscalculation, they realize the balance of time and a legacy will be gone, and evil will destroy Carlousia and their homes back in Drayton Woods. Now the boys must conquer fear, outwit predators, unfold betrayal, and overthrow evil in a world different from their own—all while pretending everything is normal at home.

The book is an extraordinary adventure with three boys taking a wild, coming-of-age journey that intertwines risk, honor, loyalty, and the kind of danger that unfortunately may lead to unimaginable loss of one of their own.

E.G. Carter’s own story is as thrilling and captivating as Carlousia itself. He suffers from dyslexia yet has never let it keep him down, earning his B.S. from the University of Georgia; he is a successful sales executive, entrepreneur and storyteller.  He wrote Carlousia, The Passing of the Guard to triumph over dyslexia, to show his two sons, and young adults that nothing is impossible.

KIRKUS INDIE REVIEW

Three young boys discover the doorway to an enchanted land through a mystical portal in their tree house in Carter’s debut novel.

As the book opens, Eddie Caskitt faces a great deal of adjustments in his life. He has just moved to a new town and is learning to make friends when his parents tell him that his beloved grandfather, Adam, is dying. On his deathbed, Adam reveals to Eddie the location of a magical bracelet that will allow him to travel to Carlousia, a wondrous world that Adam himself had been visiting for many years. Although Eddie had never fully believed his grandfather’s wild tales, he soon finds his way into Carlousia, as well, and learns that it is his destiny, like Adam before him, to be a Guardian and protect the land from the villains that threaten to undermine its freedom and peace. Although the book has many elements in common with countless works of children’s literature before it, Carter has an extremely imaginative mind and fills his novel with numerous, distinctive creations, from Wahhaha, a fuzzy, little, mischievous but loyal creature who bounces around like an over-stimulated Disney character; to the Solphins, a large, underground worm that Carlousians ride like a wave for travel and also utilize for mail delivery. Carter’s world-building can be a bit convoluted (the rules for travel in and out of Carlousia are dizzying), his prose falters at times and, as is the case with many fantasy novels, his story can be accused of being too male-centric, yet Carlousia has an enormous amount of heart. The relationship between Eddie and his friends, Scotty and Dan, is lovingly drawn and the quest they embark upon is exciting and suspenseful.

While the novel may lack the sophistication to appeal to older generations, Carter has crafted a richly detailed world that young readers will love to spend time exploring, with protagonists worth rooting for.

Braselton, GA/February 27, 2012 – Carlousia, The Passing of the Guard, a critically acclaimed young adult book by E.G. Carter has been selected for the second round of the coveted Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest.  The book advances to the second round of the contest.  It is one of 1000 entries to move to this second round, out of 5,000 books.  Carlousia, The Passing of the Guard is the first book in the new young adult fantasy series by E. Carlousia Review

Carlousia

Sara (Stone Mountain, Ga. 30083) 2/9/2012 10:18 PM

My first review after reading this exciting novel is evidently lost somewhere in cyber space. That’s okay, I can write another. E. Carter, I’ve known you for years, around age sixteen, I know your family and friends, the place you grew up, but I didn’t know about this wonderful creative side. I’m sixty four and I have just finished writing my fifth novel, unpublished(hopefully before I die I’ll enjoy the success that you are going to have with Carlousia. I enjoyed it thoroughly. You did a wonderful job writing it, bringing together the new friendship and trust of three young boys and I can’t forget little Sara Ellen; I know you added her for a futher book and I can’t wait to see what happens when she becomes age ten. I ordered a copy for my great nephew, Jake. He recently lost his grandfather and he’s an adventurous eleven year old that I hope by reading your novel will open up the love of reading that I so enjoyed at his age. You’ve made me proud, keep writing and I look forward to reading the Carlousia series.
